IMPORTANT NOTE
Your Go Experience representative will meet you at your hotel for a journey further to King Suryavarman II’s eleventh century Beng Mealea Temple – a prototype for the more famous Angkor Wat. Isolated during Cambodia’s civil war, Beng Mealea was under the control of the Khmer Rouge for decades, but has since been ‘de-mined’ and outsiders can now safely visit this temple. It is the largest temple outside the main Angkor complex and in places it is remarkably intact, but in other places utterly destroyed; tree roots and moss envelop many of the temple walls and doorways. The atmosphere here is eerie and the raised wooden platforms and stairways give you a different perspective with a bird’s eye view of the ancient architecture.
Continue afterwards to Kampong Khleang village on the edge of Tonle Sap lake. Upon arrival board a local boat and set out for an exploration of this unique village located on the flood plains of the Tonle Sap. The houses are built on stilts, some of them up to 10 meters above ground. The village is considered to be the largest permanent settlement on the lake. Visit one of the local homes and enjoy a simple picnic lunch while witnessing the daily life going on.
Meals: Lunch box.
