Depart early for a full day’s drive (300 kilometres) to Ha Giang passing through the spectacular mountain ranges of northern Vietnam. Stop at Tuyen Quang and visit a temple where locals worship the Goddess Mother of the Forest and at new year’s pray for good luck for the coming year. After lunch continue your drive to Ha Giang and onto Ban Me home stay. This area is inhabited by the Tay minority people and an area seldom visited by tourists. The rest of the afternoon is free for your own exploration around the village until evening when you will enjoy the hosted dinner with the local family.

This morning’s drive to Sung La village will take you through more of Vietnam’s stunning mountain scenery. Sung La village is well known in contemporary Vietnamese culture as the place where they shot the film “The Story of Pao” about a Hmong tribe girl who tries to track down her birth mother. Continue to Sa Phin village in Dong Van and visit the Hmong Palace, built at the beginning of last century and combining Chinese, French and Hmong architectural influences. Later journey to Meo Vac, via the spectacular Ma Pi Leng pass, and witness the landscapes and traditional tribal villages of the north. Breakfast included.

Another full and rewarding day’s drive will take you to the eastern part of Ha Giang and onto Ba Be. Along the way stop and stretch your legs at small road side villages and capture the beautiful scenes of the area while experiencing the unique way of life of the inhabitants of this region. Arrive in Ba Be in the late afternoon where you will stay overnight in Pac Ngoi village overlooking beautiful Ba Be lake. Breakfast and dinner included.

Pac Ngoi Village, Bac Kan, Vietnam
Rise early for a short walk around the village and then venture by boat onto Ba Be lake. The lake is one of the largest fresh water lakes in Vietnam and is the centre of the Ba Be national park and is surrounded by limestone mountains and primitive forest. After lunch drive back to Hanoi where your journey will end. Breakfast included
